Circle of Fifths Sequence in C

Classical4/41 vistas

Moving through chords by descending fifths (or ascending fourths) creates one of the most fundamental harmonic sequences in music. In C: Bm7b5–E7–Am7–D7–Gm7–C7–Fmaj7–Em7–Dm7–G7–Cmaj7. Each chord resolves to the next by dominant motion, cycling through the circle of fifths back to C. This sequence appears in baroque music, jazz, and classical guitar études.
